Our Pastor

Pastor Harold L McPhail is a native of Hartsville, SC and a graduate of South Carolina State College, which is currently South Carolina  State University in Orangeburg, S.C. After graduation from college his desire was to move to Charlotte, NC but God redirected his plans and had a teaching position ready for him to accept with the Greenville County School District in 1973. In 1989, he received his masters in School Administration from Clemson University and has done additional graduate studies from various colleges and universities.

In the fall of 1973 he was saved, baptized in Jesus Name and filled with the Holy Spirit.  God directed him to become pastor of Averill Street Church of God in 1983 and after accepting God’s call into the pastoral ministry; he immediately changed the above church name to Averill Street Christian Fellowship then to New Hope Christian Fellowship Church. He is an anointed pastor, teacher and a man after God’s own heart that desires to see people come into the knowledge of the saving grace of Jesus Christ.  His desire also is for people to receive healing for the body and restoration for the heart and soul through the Word of God.

In February 2001, we dedicated our 5000 sq. feet building in spite of the many challenges, struggles and lack of members and money, God told pastor to build a church structure from the ground up. Our church motto is “Going Further Than We Have Ever Gone Before!”

The ministry has ordained ministers who are now pastors as well as bible teachers, evangelists and other lay ministers.  The church is active in the prison ministry and has been recognized by the State of South Carolina as Volunteer of the year on several occasions.

He has been married to his companion, Betty for 34 years and God has added five children,  six grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren to their union. He currently resides in Greenville, SC and is an Assistant Principal at Tanglewood Middle School.
